In Self Defense – Should You Carry A Gun – Safe Havens International Releases a Powerful New Video

As more than 75 million people now keep or carry a gun for self-defense in the United States, we felt that an important chapter in our new book Staying Alive – How to Act Fast and Survive Deadly Encounters should focus on important considerations for people who are considering such an important life choice.  This is especially true since some states have now made it possible for school employees with concealed carry permits to carry firearms on school property.

Our purpose for this chapter is not to engage in the gun control debate.  Instead, the premise of the chapter is that regardless of how any of us feel about the issue individually, the fact is that Gallup polls show that nearly one out of every four adults in the United States keeps a gun for self-defense or carries a gun to protect themselves and others.  With this reality in mind, we feel that it is critical that people who are thinking about keeping or carrying a gun for self-defense consider some extremely important points.  The award winning Safe Havens International video crew has produced a dozen new free training videos in the Staying Alive – How to Act Fast and Survive Deadly Encounters series.  They have produced two videos of different lengths that examine considerations for carrying a gun.  The latest video went live this morning and is titled In Self Defense – Should You Carry a Gun?

In Self-Defense – Should You Carry a Gun? is a powerful and concise three and a half minute video to introduce people to the chapter in Staying  Alive – How to Act Fast and Survive Deadly Encounters relating to this important topic.   We want to see this and the other videos from the series in wide circulation and appreciate the efforts of readers to share the link to this amazing video.

Staying Alive – How to Act Fast and Survive Deadly Encounters is already out on Amazon where it is also available for Kindle.

Threat on Twitter leads to school lockdown, and man’s arrest

Yankton, SD

In mid-April, a 23-year old posted on Twitter that he “felt like shooting up a school today.”  Police were alerted to the tweet on May 7 and informed the superintendent of Yankton Schools all without being aware of the date of the original tweet.

Yankton Schools were put on a “partial” lockdownPolice officers were sent to every school, and the police were able to apprehend the suspect.

For the police, finding out the tweet was almost a month prior changed nothing, as they were “were going after public safety as our first priority.”

Yankton Schools are using this incident as an opportunity to review their safety plans.

Minnesota School Terror Plot Uncovered

Fox News

A 17-year old student in Waseca, MN was arrested after being found in a storage unit filled with bomb-making materials.  The subsequent investigation revealed a a horrific plot to kill his family, then attack the junior and senior high school.

The student had a 180-page notebook with detailed plans, seven weapons, ammunition, three working explosive devices, black clothing and a ski mask.

The investigation began in late March when three small explosive devices were found on an elementary school playground.  The break came when a concerned citizen noticed a “suspiciousperson at a storage facility and called the police.

This is clearly a win for the “see something say something” mentality we need today to stay alive.  Law enforcement agencies need the help of concerned citizens to alert them of potential problems.  Police officers would rather investigate a report like this than to respond to a school with mass casualties.

Kudos to the anonymous citizen who exhibited a “Staying Alive” attitude!

School violence averted by parents with a “Staying Alive” attitude

Campus Safety Magazine

A 17-year old student at Madison High School in San Antonio, TX was arrested after he brought three loaded guns and a knife to school.

His plan was to make demands during morning announcements, and to use violence if his demands were not met.  We do not currently have any information on what those demands might have been.

Two loaded handguns and a knife were found in his backpack, and an AK-47 was found in a restroom.

The boy’s parents woke up and found the boy gone, and the weapons missing.  They contacted the school, who located and secured the boy.  The incident caused the school to be locked down for an hour.

Schools that create a trusting environment in their building will be more likely to receive such reports, and can act accordingly.  People with a “Staying Alive” attitude are not going to be dismissive of alarming information, and will alert others of danger.
