Learn how to …
identify a variety of hazards, critical emergency preplanning features, and ways to improve the climate, safety and learning environment of the school.
The training utilizes the all hazards approach and will cover a variety of hazards ranging from bullying, to fires, acts of violence, terrorism and other types of crisis situations. The classroom training will also include a thorough overview of crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) as adapted to the K12 environment. CPTED is a research- based body of knowledge that is focused on creating improvements in security while enhancing the feeling of safety by focusing on the building environment and how people utilize it. This training includes information on how to establish or improve on access control not only for the perimeter of the school but within the school itself covering the importance of security of internal areas. The sessions emphasize ways to protect sensitive information such as student records, personal employee information and other types of information that can be easily accessed in most schools using surreptitious methods.
This highly interactive training includes practical exercises where trainees visit schools to be shown how to conduct a tactical site survey and to apply what they have learned. Attendees will also receive an electronic version of the Safe Havens International Tactical Site Survey Checklist.
