Indiana the first to require an armed employee in every school?

Indianapolis, IN

Indiana could become the first state in the U.S. to equire that there be one person during the day to be armed.

Senate Bill 1 is up for a vote after making it out of the Education Committee.  Proponents say having an armed person in a school can prevent school massacres like Sandy Hook, while critics wonder of teachers should be armed.

The bill requires that anyone armed in a school receive special training on weapons and their use prior to carrying in a school.

Middle school girl sent to the hospital after being beaten on the school bus

Springfield, MO

A 12-year old student at Carver Middle School was violently attacked on a school bus, the latest in numerous instances of bullying for this young girl.

Children at her school have made fun of her pimples, her size, and have chased her across the cafeteria, and gave her a standing ovation when she left.

The attack on the school bus gave her a broken nose that required surgery.  Since the attack, she has received online threats via social media, and has not returned to school.

School-shooting threat in Tempe

Tempe, AZ
A 16-year old at Marcos de Niza High School has been arrested for making a terroristic threat against his school.

The Tempe police received a report that the student had made a threat on social media to do a shooting on Tuesday morning, April 2, prompting them to arrest him at his home Tuesday morning.

As found in the article: “School associated violent deaths are rare — 17 homicides of school-age youth ages 5 to 18 years occurred at school during the 2009-2010 school year and of all youth homicides, less than 2 percent occur at school, and this percentage has been stable for the past decade.”

Student charged in school cafeteria attack

South Bend, IN

A senior at Northridge High School was arrested and charged with battery and intimidation following an altercation in the school cafeteria.  During that fight, it was alleged that the attacker pulled a handgun, although there was not enough evidence to charge him with a gun crime.

A boy is burned on a school bus, charges filed

Florence, AZ

Two 16-year old students at Apache Junction High School are being charged with misdemeanor assault after an incident on a school bus.  They lit a pencil eraser on fire and used it to burn a 13-year old student on his arm.

The victim is a student at Cactus Canyon Junior High School, and kept the attack a secret for weeks because he had been threatened.
