Student Wounded in Shooting at Oakland High School

Oakland, CA

An 18-year-old student was shot in the leg Wednesday as classes let out for the day at Oakland High School, police said.

The teen was rushed to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, said Oakland police spokeswoman Officer Johnna Watson.

The boy’s name was not released, and no one else was injured in the incident.

A group of students had gathered about 3:30 p.m. in the shade under some pine trees at Park and MacArthur boulevards after school when the gunman opened fire on the teen from about 20 feet away, police said. A merchant at a nearby store, who declined to give his name, said he saw the victim jumping up and down yelling, “I just got shot, I just got shot.”

School officials ordered students back to classrooms, and the school was temporarily put on lockdown.
