Using Sample Emergency Map Icons

The icons available on this page have been based on general standards and common fire code requirements. Check your local fire code to see what is required for your maps. Often the requirements will include easy to identify locations of:

  • Primary Evacuation Routes
  • Secondary Evacuation Routes
  • Fire Alarm Pull Stations
  • Fire Extinguishers
  • Area of Rescue Assistance

And for building master maps:

  • Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) location
  • Fire Alarm Annunciator Panel (FAAP) locations
  • Fire Riser Room locations
  • Locations of Hazardous Materials that are stored in the facility

Additional items that you might want to include are:

  • Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) locations
  • Shelter areas for a specific emergency function (i.e. Tornado sheltering, Lockdown, etc.)
  • Icons or photos to represent assembly areas
